The Service Routing Redundancy Daemon
A Cluster Server based on the OSPF Routing Protocol
- 01.07.2004
We added a GFS section to open.datacore.ch with links to documentation, source snapshots, installation instructions, commit logs, GenToo ebuilds and more! The installation instructions describe in detail how to setup GFS locally and for remote access on a system running the GenToo Distribution.

Yesterday Redhat made Sinista's Global File System (GFS) open source again. GFS offers a clustered filesystem with modern features. We are currently investigating the possibilities to use GFS as storage for SRRD service data. Using GFS with GNBD and local disks in each node should result in a distributed filesystem simmilar to SRRD's network raid1 mirror with NBD block devices.

Merged quagga-0.96.4-r6.ebuild to GenToo Distribution. Quagga is now supported and available in the GenToo Distribution. The Quagga ebuild compiles and installs Quagga with Opaque LSA and OSPFAPI support. It includes necessary fixes to improve the stability of the Quagga routing daemon when used in conjunction with SRRD.

New Book - "Integrated Cisco and UNIX Network Architectures". The new book from Gernot Schmied will contain a chapter about Quagga and SRRD. The book will be released in Cisco Press in summer 2004. The author discusses IGP and EGP routing protocols and looks into OSPF, MPLS-TE, OSPF-API, Opaque LSA as well as SRRD. SRRD gets shown as a example of a redundancy concept implementation which uses OSPF-API and Opaque LSAs for service discovery, service selection as well as service routing.

Release of srrd-0.98-pre18. This release extends SRREXECD to process emergency interface removal requests from SRRD allowing SRRD running as user srrd to remove interfaces without Quagga's help. It also fixes a seldom occuring locking bug and a memory corruption issue. This is a maintenance release. Check the News page for more details.

Release of srrd-0.98-pre17. This release fixes a lot of minor anoying bugs. Automatic OSPFD reconnecting was fixed and allows to restart OSPFD without stopping SRRD now. Extended SR::Service::Pureftp service primitive. SRRD now changes user and group by itself. Fixes DNS cache problems. Furthermore it includes lots of changes in the FreeBSD port. Check the News page for more details.

Maintenance: http://srrd.org downtime. We upgraded our 5 node SRRD cluster to version 0.98-pre16. Since that cluster also serves http://srrd.org, the server had some downtime too, which we are sorry for. Drop by on #srrd if you would like to hear the fully story.

Release of srrd-0.98-pre16. This release implements gratuitous ARP to update ARP caches of local nodes. SRRD is now able to be run without root privileges as a user process. Fixes a race condition and multiple serious bugs introduced by 0.98-pre15! Furthermore it includes lots of changes for the three SRRD ports to GenToo, SuSE and FreeBSD. Check the News page for more details.

Bug Tracking: srrd.org/scarab goes online. We have setup a new Scarab based Bug Tracking System to help us keeping track of defects and enhancements in the SRRD development.

SRRD @ BSDcan Presentation. SRRD will be presented by Jean-Francois Laforest at the BSDcan in Canada. Check the BSDCcan Presentations page!

Created The SRRD Book. We began to concatenate all currently known SRRD HOWTOs, DEV.NOTEs into a docbook style xml book. You can find the result on The Service Routing Redundancy Book page.
- 14.02.2004
New site: srrd.org goes online. SRRD now has his own domain. We reserved srrd.org, srrd.net and srrd.com. They all point to this site.
- 12.02.2004
Release of srrd-0.98-pre15. SRRD is now multi-threaded! This allows us to support features like HTTP/1.1 support, connection keep-alive, deflate and gzip compressed web pages, parallel service primitive execution and a lot more! This version implements a new external execution daemon named SRREXECD. Supports new service PureFTPD nativly. SRRD was ported to different distributions and is known to compile under GenToo, SuSE and FreeBSD now! Check the News page for more details.
- 12.12.2003
Release of srrd-0.98-pre14. This is the latest stable version before the implementation of a threaded design into SRRD. We are currently using pre14 in production. Check the News page for more details.
